I am a proud employee of JAG-ONE Physical Therapy in Hawthorne, NY. My name is Ivo Fernandes and here’s a brief intro into my life as a runner.
In 2006, I fractured my left heel and was told by my orthopedist that I would never be able to run again. I wasn’t a runner to begin with and can remember how much I dreaded doing cross country in school and always coming last, or at very best second to last. Being told you would never run again is not only a scary prospect but also an incredibly strong motivating force to start running…and so I did. I signed up for the New York City Marathon in 2008 and completed it with a rejuvenated spirit for running.
I have since completed 5 full and 5 half marathons and in May 2016 completed my first Ultra Marathon. The Comrades Marathon is the worlds oldest and biggest participated Ultra Marathon in the world and runs approximately 89km/ 56 miles. It is run annually in the KwaZulu Natal Province of South Africa and was first run in 1921 and every year since except for a break during World War 2.
2016 was a big year for me and I was fortunate enough to complete The Comrades in 9hrs and 17min without injury. My hope is to take on the challenge again in 2017 and break 9hrs. With JAG-ONE Physical Therapy, adequate training and hard work, I believe this is possible.
